CEZA attends safety and health training course to help protect its workforce from occupational hazards

Twelve safety and health officers of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authorityassigned at the Cagayan and Manila offices completed a 40-hour course for basic occupational safety and health (BOSH) on August 02, 04,05, 09 and 10, 2021.

Covering significant modules like Workplace Risk Assessment, HazardIdentification, Development of Control Measures, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Communication, Responses, Legislations, and Program Development, the training is recognized by CEZA to be an essential activity to equip its personnel of proper identification and handling of various safety, environmental and health hazards in the workplace.

Mr. Leonardo C. Cruz, Head Technical Assistant and OIC of CEZA CagayanOffices, conveyed, “At CEZA, we are in business-as-usual, amid the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time that we remain committed to the fulfillment of our deliverables, we recognize not only the occupational health hazard, but also the safety and environmental hazards that come with it.”

PCSupt. Agrimero A. Cruz, Ret., CSEE, CEZA Deputy Administrator, added, “We do not want to compromise the health and safety of our personnel, so we have assigned Safety and Health Officers, whom we continuously equip with the necessary skills and trainings to implement appropriate programs and policies for this purpose.”

The twelve participants were the second batch sent by CEZA for the same course. On top of this training course, CEZA officers and personnel alike have also been attending other health and safety related courses.

Conducted by a Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-accredited safety training organization, 1A Occupational Safety and Health Training Corporation, the said course is also equivalent to the BOSH for SO2 mandatory training programs of the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) of DOLE. It also complies with the Joint (Tripartite) Memorandum Circular No. 1, Series of 2020 of DOLE, Department of Health (DOH) and the Civil Service Commission (CSC) on Occupational Safety and Health Training Standards for the Public Sectors that intend “to protect all government employees from the dangers of injury, sickness or death in the workplace through the adoption of safe and healthy working conditions to ensure the preservation of human lives and resources and prevent loss/damage of properties.”

The twelve participants of CEZA are paying attention and participating in the discussion during the training seminar.

At the end of the training course, the participants are asked to draft a Safety and health Program Re-Entry Plan as an output from the course.

The participants, together with the speakers, pose for the camera before closing the session.
