TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Jan. 29 (PIA) – The Department of Health – Cagayan Valley Center for Health and Development here has already prepared measures against novel coronavirus (2019 nCov) at the three airports here and at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC).
The Cagayan Valley Region has three operational airports to include the Cauayan City Domestic Airport in Cauayan City, Isabela, the Tuguegarao Domestic airport in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan and the Cagayan North International Airport (CNIA) in Lal-lo, Cagayan.
DOH Regional Director Rio Magpantay together with Dr. Leticia Cabrera and other staff from the CHD, personnel from the Bureau of Quarantine and Aviation Security Unit of the Philippine National Police (PNP) led the team to visit the Tuguegarao City airport.
Magpantay said the teams studied the flow of passengers arriving at the airport and identified the strategic position of possible areas for quarantine.
The CVMC, Medical Center Chief Glenn Mathew Baggao convened the Infection Control Committee to check on the preparedness measures of the hospital should there be a suspected nCov patient.
Baggao said they assured the department of the presence of a standby ambulance to transport suspected victims and a reserved isolation room should there be. A separate intensive care unit room to accommodate nCov-suspected patients is also in place.
The team also headed to the CNIA in Lal-lo town for inspection. CNIA General Manager Mariano Barrion, Jr. together with Lal-lo Vice Mayor Ma. Olivia Pascual and Municipal Health Officer Maria Concepcion Abbang assured the department to strictly implement measures to protect the people of the province from the virus.
On the other hand, the DOH’s Health Education and Promotion Unit (HEPU), Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for Health (DRRM-H) conducted another meeting on January 28 with the head and select personnel of the Human Resource for Health for the names of personnel to be identified to augment as health personnel in the three identified airports in the region.
While the health department confirmed the absence of nCov case in the region, Magpantay urged the public to continue to be vigilant and to practice precautionary measures as advised by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Meanwhile, Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba ordered Dr. Carlos Cortina of the Provincial Health Office to work closely with DOH and officials of the two airports in the province to safeguard the populace against nCov. (MDCT/GVB/PIA 2 -Cagayan)
