SANTA ANA, Cagayan: The Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) here has started a series of webinars to educate the public with the most basic principles, fundamentals, regulations and innovative-driven opportunities brought by the financial technology (fintech) industry in the region.

Sec. Raul Lambino, CEZA administrator and chief executive officer, on Sunday said, the initial "1st Ceza Initiated webinar on Blockchain and Financial Technology (Fintech 101: Cagayan Valley Chapter)" was attended by around 400 individuals from the different regional line agencies, local government units, academe, media entities and business stakeholders.

Fintech taps the power of technology to enhance and automate financial services and processes such as electronic and mobile payments and banking.

The term fintech encompasses a rapidly growing industry that serves the interest of businesses and consumers in several, and at times, multiple ways.

According to Lambino, the objective of the webinar is not only to educate, but also to touch base with the different participants/attendees of the webinars on the fintech industry.

Leonardo Cruz, CEZA department manager for marketing and investments promotions and officer-in-charge of Cagayan offices, noted that the CEZA intends to make the online event a series of webinars on fintech as it promotes the adoption and integration of financial technology in the country.

He said the strength of blockchain and cryptocurrency is correlated to the span of its network.

"We at CEZA embrace this philosophy as we invite you all to explore with us the numerous opportunities for collaboration in financial technology," Cruz said.

Undersecretary Raymundo Roquero introduced and discussed what the future holds for cryptocurrency and blockchain.

Lawyer Mike Gerald David, CEZA resource speaker for fintech and virtual currency presented "Fintech 101: The Foundation of Blockchain and Financial Technology."

David discussed a variety of topics that have covered fintech and blockchain background, industry acceptance, situation and regulation in Southeast Asian countries including the Philippines.
