Shooting range rises in Cagayan’s CEZA

A group of Filipino-led investors lured by the “unique geography” of Cagayan province will set up the country’s first world-class shooting range it forecasts to be “the best in Asia,” in one of the least-explored areas of the Cagayan Special Economic Zone and Freeport.

Olympic-standard facilities for skeet and trap shooting, a sporting clay range, an outdoor range with 100-, 200-, 500- and 1000-meter stations and a 25-meter indoor range make up the centerpiece of the proposed sprawling resort with a high-end stay-in lodge.

Patricia de Las Cagigas, general manager of Asia Defense and Armaments Corp., the proponent of SantAsia Resort & Lodge, told Secretary Raul L. Lambino, Administrator and CEO of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority that her group is seeking a joint venture with CEZA.

The Authority would provide land in a remote area of the Zone and SantAsia all the vertical and horizontal development in an investment estimated to top US$50 million, she told Lambino during a call at the CEZA offices in Pasig City.

“This is going to be a first-of-its kind shooting range, outdoor and eco-tourism resort and a park recreation amid a mini-wildlife preserve,” she said.

“The shooting range and resort we are proposing will be a unique experience for the CEOs of companies in China, Japan, Hongkong, Singapore who are looking for a different adrenaline rush,” says Ramon Garcia, a partner for the group that will bring Japanese, Singaporean and United Kingdom investors to the proposed venture.
