MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has transferred tourism undersecretary Jose Gabriel ‘Pompee’ La Viña to the Department of Agriculture and tapped Cagayan Economic Zone Authority administrator and CEO Raul Lambino as his adviser for Northern Luzon.
La Viña, who played a crucial part in the Duterte presidential campaign as social media director, will serve as DA undersecretary.
Prior to his post at the tourism department, La Viña was a commissioner at the Social Security System.
The President was criticized for giving La Viña another post at the tourism department despite allegations of corruption.
La Viña’s transfer to the DA came after the appointment of new tourism chief Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, who sought the courtesy resignation of all the department’s undersecretaries and assistant secretaries.
Meanwhile, Lambino, a native of Santa Ana, Cagayan, will receive a compensation of one peso per annum as the President’s adviser for Northern Luzon.
He was appointed CEZA chief in July last year. He previously served as legal spokesperson of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Arroyo, a staunch ally of Duterte.
Duterte also tapped Nepomuceno Malaluan as education undersecretary, replacing Alberto Muyot who is now the CEO of non-government organization Save the Children Philippines.
The President also appointed V. Bruce Jularbal Tolentino as member of the Monetary Board, for a term expiring on July 21, 2020.
Duterte also extended the term of Wallie Lee and Carlos Chan as his special envoys to China.
The President had earlier extended the assignments of Fernando Selim Borja, William De Jesus Lima, and Cheng Yong as his special envoys to China.
