DOH Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development confirms 1st Case of a Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus-Acute Respiratory Disease (2019 nCov-ARD) in Cagayan Valley


After the Department of Health has confirmed its first case of the 2019 nCov-ARD on January 30, 2020; today, the DOH Cagayan Valley CHD confirms its first person-under investigation The 29 year-old patient arrived in the Philippines on January 24 2020, and was identified to be employed as a Domestic Helper in Hong Kong She is currently admitted and is showing signs of improvement upon having been isolated and provided round-the-clock care by our trained medical personnel at Cagayan Valley Medical Center.

We share this information to the public not to create fear or to further drive the panic that envelopes the ongoing spread of this disease that has now caused unprecedented distress to the people of Cagayan Valley despite of our constant reminder of staying cautious and practice preventive measures as much as we can.

We at DOH CV CHD, are assertive that the region and its health facilities along with its personnel are adequately prepared l respond to the probability of handling a positive case should there be person to be identified as such. We have been in constant communication with our partner agencies and other stakeholders and have given them ample technical information on how to go about the probability of an encounter with positively identified persons. Our Health Emergency Response Team composed of our Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU), our Disaster Risk Reduction Management for Health Unit (DRRM-H), our Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious (RIDE) Program under the Infectious Diseases Cluster along with our Health Education and Promotion Unit (HEPU), as overseen by our Management Committee is now on high alert for providing technical assistance and service delivery to agencies, institutions or Local Government Units that shall necessitate their expertise.

Given the preparation that CV CHD is undertaking, we wish to inform and remind the public that the matter at hand, the possible emergence of the 2019 nCov-ARD in region 2 is being dealt with utmost urgency and importance. We urge everyone to continue to practice preventive measures for infection control such as proper hand hygiene, cough etiquette and self-protection, most importantly, to continue boosting your immune system through maintaining a health lifestyle, consuming a balanced and nutritious diet, drinking the recommended daily water intake and getting a full night's sleep of not less than 6 hours a day.
